- China Telecom invited bids for mid-range CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) phone purchases soon after the Chinese Lunar New Year 2010, the Chinese Business News reported on February 26. Via the bid, China Telecom plans to buy five million CDMA phones in a bid to tap future demand for CDMA phones. The phones, to be priced between 700 RMB (US$102.9; US$ 1 = 6.8 RMB) and 1,999 RMB (US$294.0), have to be customized for e-Surfing, one of China Telecom's mobile services under the brand name of Tianyi, according to the same source. The bidding conference was held on February 22, 2010 and China Mobile already sent related procurement documents to over 80 mobile phone manufacturers worldwide. Companies who are interested in participate in the bidding should submit applications before March 8, 2010.
